she says it’s just good lighting is an original mixed-media artwork and a study of The Accolade by Edmund Leighton, reinterpreted through thousands of hand-cut paint-chip pixels.

The piece is dedicated to a certain perfectly lovely woman I know, who insists she has never met an injector, despite what certain envious observers, myself included, may choose to believe. Perhaps it is genetics. Perhaps it is rest. Perhaps the lighting really is exceptional.

Created using 243 individual colors and approximately 8,000 hand-cut paint-chip squares, the work transforms a historic image into a contemporary meditation on beauty, suspicion, immaculate skin, and the strange social requirement that looking very good must always be explained.

Each paint-chip pixel is individually cut and mounted by hand on 3 mm aluminium Dibond using museum-grade archival adhesive, creating a detailed surface that sits somewhere between painting, mosaic, and digital image.

Measuring 81.5 x 101.6 cm, the artwork includes an approx. 5 mm border around the composition, designed to be hidden by framing.
